MADE IN THE USA
CPTC series Copper Pad Thermocouples are an ideal solution for surface temperature measuring applications. Special limits of error accuracy thermocouple wire is cut to the required length and the conductors are soldered to the copper pad to form a measuring junction. The copper pad is bonded to the surface using an Epoxy resin or Cyanoacrylate based glue.
Ideal for, but not limited to, surface temperature measurements of metal, glass, or PCB board surfaces. As an option, we can install a Mini Connector on the adjacent wire lead termination end.

Compact, Fast-Response Surface Temperature Measurement for Precision Applications
The CPTC Surface Temperature Thermocouple with Miniature Copper Pad is a compact, high-accuracy temperature sensor designed for precise surface temperature measurement in research, development, and light industrial applications. Featuring a small copper sensing pad and fast response time, the CPTC is ideal for applications where space is limited and accurate thermal tracking is critical.
Engineered with Special Limits of Error (SLE) thermocouple materials and a grounded junction design, the CPTC provides reliable, repeatable measurements while maintaining excellent thermal contact with the measured surface.
Proudly made in the USA, this thermocouple is built using high-quality materials to ensure consistent performance in demanding environments.
Designed for Surface Temperature Measurement
The CPTC thermocouple is specifically designed to measure temperature directly at the surface of a component. Its miniature copper pad is bonded directly to the target surface using adhesive, allowing for accurate and responsive measurement without requiring insertion or invasive installation.
This makes the CPTC ideal for:
Tube and pipe surface temperature monitoring
Electronics and component testing
Heat transfer studies
Laboratory and R&D applications
HVAC and thermal system analysis
By mounting directly to the surface, the CPTC ensures reliable thermal coupling and minimizes measurement lag.
Miniature Copper Pad for Precision Applications
At the core of the CPTC design is a miniature copper pad, engineered to provide excellent thermal conductivity and fast response.
Pad dimensions: 0.085" x 0.095" (2.1 mm x 2.4 mm)
Pad thickness: 0.020" (0.5 mm)
The small size allows for placement in tight or confined areas where larger sensors cannot be used, making it ideal for detailed thermal mapping and localized measurements.
Copper’s high thermal conductivity ensures efficient heat transfer from the measured surface to the sensing junction, improving response time and measurement accuracy.
Fast Response for Dynamic Measurements
The CPTC thermocouple is designed for fast thermal response, enabling it to track temperature changes quickly and accurately.
Typical response time: approximately 500 milliseconds (time constant)
This rapid response makes it suitable for applications where temperature changes occur quickly, such as:
Thermal cycling tests
Transient heat transfer analysis
Dynamic system monitoring
The ability to respond quickly to temperature fluctuations helps improve data accuracy and system insight.
Special Limits of Error Accuracy
The CPTC is manufactured using Special Limits of Error thermocouple materials, providing enhanced accuracy compared to standard-grade sensors.
Accuracy: Greater of ±0.4% of reading or ±1.1°C
This level of precision ensures reliable and repeatable measurements, making the CPTC suitable for critical testing and validation applications.
Grounded Junction for Improved Response
The CPTC features a grounded sensing junction, which provides faster response compared to ungrounded designs by placing the sensing junction in direct contact with the copper pad.
Benefits of a grounded junction include:
Faster thermal response
Improved sensitivity to temperature changes
Enhanced performance in dynamic applications
This design is particularly effective in applications where rapid temperature tracking is required.
Wide Thermocouple Type Options
The CPTC thermocouple is available in multiple thermocouple types to suit different measurement requirements:
Type J
Type K
Type T
This flexibility allows users to select the appropriate thermocouple type based on temperature range, sensitivity, and application requirements.
Temperature Ratings
The CPTC is designed for moderate temperature applications, with the following limits:
Maximum pad temperature: 325°F (162°C)
Maximum cable temperature: 400°F (204°C)
These ratings make it suitable for a wide range of laboratory, testing, and industrial environments where surface temperatures are within these limits.
Durable FEP Insulated Lead Wire
The CPTC is equipped with a durable FEP-insulated lead wire, providing flexibility and protection in demanding environments.
Key cable features include:
FEP insulation with FEP outer jacket
30 AWG solid core conductors
Resistance to chemicals and environmental exposure
Flexibility for easy routing and installation
This construction ensures reliable signal transmission while maintaining durability and ease of use.
Simple Adhesive Mounting
The CPTC thermocouple is designed for easy installation using adhesive bonding.
Installation benefits include:
Quick and simple setup
No welding or drilling required
Ideal for temporary or semi-permanent installations
Minimal impact on the measured surface
This makes it especially useful in testing environments where sensors may need to be repositioned or removed.
