OVERVIEW
• Frequency Input: 0-100 Hz to 0-30 kHz
• DC Output: 0-1 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, +/- 5 V, +/- 10 V, 4-20 mA, etc.
• Field-Configurable by User
The API 7580 G accepts a frequency Input and provides an optically isolated DC voltage or current analog output that is linearly proportional to the input.
Common applications include frequency to DC conversions from frequency output type devices such as rotary encoders, magnetic pick-ups, variable speed drives and flow meters. For PLCs that do not have analog outputs, often the pulse rate of a discreet output can be programmed to vary. By connecting the API 7580 G to this output, a proportional analog signal can be generated.
The full 3-way (input, output, power) isolation makes this module useful for ground loop elimination, common mode signal rejection or noise pickup reduction.
The API 7580 G input and output can be field-configured via external rotary and slide switches. The more common ranges (30 input & 16 output) can be selected from the table on the module. Many additional combinations are possible. Consult the factory for assistance with special ranges.
API exclusive features include two LoopTracker LEDs and a Functional Test Pushbutton. The LoopTracker LEDs (Green for input, Red for output) vary in intensity with changes in the process input and output signals. Monitoring the state of these LEDs can provide a quick visual picture of your process loop at all times. The functional test pushbutton provides a fixed output (independent of the input) when held depressed. The test output level can be field-adjusted via a multiturn potentiometer.
Both the LoopTracker LEDs and functional test pushbutton greatly aid in saving time during initial startup and/or troubleshooting. The built-in 18 VDC unregulated loop excitation power supply can be used to power passive input devices.

The API 7580G Frequency to DC Isolated Transmitter is a high-performance signal conditioning module designed to convert frequency-based input signals into precise, proportional DC voltage or current outputs. Engineered for industrial automation, process control, and instrumentation applications, the API 7580G provides flexible configuration, high accuracy, and robust electrical isolation for reliable signal conversion.
With wide-ranging input and output selections, built-in loop power, and advanced diagnostic features, the API 7580G offers a versatile and dependable solution for integrating frequency signals into analog control systems.
Convert Frequency Signals into Analog Outputs
The API 7580G accepts frequency inputs from a wide range of devices and converts them into a proportional analog output signal.
Typical input sources include:
Flow meters
Rotary encoders
Magnetic pickups
Variable speed drives
Pulse outputs from PLCs
The output signal can then be used by:
PLCs and control systems
Data acquisition systems
Recorders and indicators
This conversion is essential in applications where frequency signals must be translated into standard analog formats.
Wide Frequency Input Range
The API 7580G supports an exceptionally wide input range:
Low range: 0–100 Hz to 0–1500 Hz
High range: 0–2 kHz to 0–30 kHz
This flexibility allows the module to accommodate both low-speed and high-speed signal sources.
The input circuitry is designed to accept a variety of waveform types, including:
Sine wave
Square wave
Sawtooth wave
Other signals with sufficient amplitude
Flexible Analog Output Options
The API 7580G provides a wide selection of output ranges for maximum compatibility:
Voltage Outputs:
0–1 VDC to 0–10 VDC
Bipolar ±1 VDC to ±10 VDC
Current Outputs:
0–2 mA to 0–20 mA
4–20 mA (industry standard)
This allows the transmitter to interface seamlessly with virtually any industrial control system.
Field Configurable for Fast Setup
The API 7580G is designed for quick and easy configuration in the field:
30 selectable input ranges
16 selectable output ranges
Setup via rotary and slide switches
As shown in the setup tables on page 2, users can quickly match input and output ranges without complex programming.
This “one-minute setup” capability reduces installation time and simplifies system integration.
Full 3-Way Isolation for Signal Integrity
The API 7580G provides full isolation between input, output, and power circuits:
Isolation rating: 2000 VRMS minimum
This ensures:
Elimination of ground loops
Improved noise rejection
Protection of sensitive equipment
Stable signal transmission
Isolation is especially important in industrial environments with electrical noise or differing ground potentials.
Built-In Loop Power Supply
The module includes an integrated loop power supply:
18 VDC nominal output
Up to 25 mA capacity
This allows the API 7580G to power passive input devices, such as certain sensors, eliminating the need for an external power supply.
Adjustable Input Sensitivity and Noise Rejection
The API 7580G features an adjustable sensitivity control:
Input threshold adjustable via potentiometer
Helps filter out noise and false signals
Improves measurement stability
This allows users to optimize performance based on signal quality and application requirements.
LoopTracker® LEDs for Real-Time Diagnostics
The API 7580G includes built-in LoopTracker LEDs for quick system monitoring:
Green LED: Indicates input signal presence and strength
Red LED: Indicates output signal level
LED brightness varies with signal intensity, providing real-time visual feedback on system operation.
Functional Test Button for Easy Troubleshooting
A front-panel test button allows users to simulate an output signal:
Adjustable from 0% to 100% of output span
Independent of input signal
This feature simplifies:
System commissioning
Troubleshooting
Verification of downstream equipment
High Accuracy and Stable Performance
The API 7580G delivers reliable and precise signal conversion:
