Why Use Twisted and Shielded Thermocouple Wire Near Power Lines?

Submitted by Robd on

Thermocouples generate low-level voltage signals that are highly sensitive to electromagnetic interference (EMI), especially when routed near high-voltage AC power lines.

Twisted conductors help cancel out induced noise by ensuring that any external interference affects both wires equally, minimizing the net impact on the signal.

Foil shielding provides an additional barrier, reflecting and grounding EMI before it can reach the conductors.

Using twisted and shielded thermocouple wire significantly improves signal integrity and helps ensure more accurate and reliable temperature readings in electrically noisy environments.
